Number of Flights Starting to Increase; Cancellations Could Decrease Monday

CHICAGO, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ --

The U.S. air-traffic control system was back to handling its typical air-traffic volume for a Sunday afternoon.

More than 4,500 flights were aloft as of 4 p.m. EDT. The number of commercial passenger flights, while increasing, was still only about two-thirds that of a normal weekend day. Many flights were diverted planes and emergency relief aircraft.
