Colin Hanks was raised by his mother, actress Samantha Lewes, in Sacramento--a safe distance from the bright lights of Hollywood--and a vantage from which he watched his doting father, Tom Hanks, become America's most beloved actor. It wasn't until Colin went south to Los Angeles (where he attended Loyola Mary-mount University), that he made the decision to join the family business.
