The differences are astounding

Thirty years ago a residential alarm system would be found in the homes of only the 'rich and famous' as they were quite expensive--hardwired and bulky and not that easy to use with limited operation. As such, they often went unused. Societal concerns at the time, the high cost of installation and the lack of technological innovation kept security off the "must have" list of most homeowners, especially the middle class.
